13 of us shared breakfast, information, and fellowship at Liberty today, with 2 guests (Scott Finch and Kevin McGlashen) representing Boy Scouts (Pack 0042 Lions Club of Flushing 1233 spring view street Flushing MI 48433) – they thanked us for the “returnables” donation from our Summerfest tent fundraiser (worth $116 to the Scouts) and brought in a couple bags of “pull tabs” recovered for the Ronald McDonald House.
Jeff Gauger thanked them for the donation and will make sure that the donation gets to Ann Arbor. Jeff also announced a Sleep in Heavenly Peace “Build Day” in Millington on July 18, and Phil Holmblade announced an SHP “Delivery Day” on the 11th. Our guests told us about their personal histories and experiences with Scouts, adding that the need to accumulate “service credits” could easily be met with SHP volunteer effort while providing mentorship and training in woodwork and teamwork for the youngsters. (!)
As the meeting was called to a semblance of order by “ersatz” leader Jeff Dennings, it was unclear as to how large and how “formal” this morning’s gathering would be, so we wound up “Pledging Allegiance” to Jack Proffitt’s shoulder. (There was a flag on his shirt and I was busy reciting the Pledge so I forgot to get a photo of Jack, but you can get the idea from the shirt photo above.) Jeff also asked Jack to speak the invocation (“While all eyes are on you, …”).
Steve Schlott fined Joe Cozart for allowing his wife to sit idly by reading while Joe “sweated in the hot sun” (mowing the lawn and trying to win sympathy.) John Farah paid a fine for late entrance this morning and he tried to sidestep paying by asking the group to mistake him for his cousin Joe.
Final numbers are not yet compiled but it looks like our Summerfest profits will provide between $7,000–8,000 “for the kids”.
