12 of us gathered this morning for a meeting that had originally been suspended: we thought that we would have an informal gathering at the Summerfest tent site, but we got enough done last night to allow us to have a “regular” meeting at Valley’s before the work and fun ramp up for tonight’s start of the weekend-long event. (See photo above for a view of some of our volunteers with Governor-Elect Sean Mueller in the back row wearing a black shirt! The photo at the end of this article shows the event getting under way.)
HUGE CHANGE: Valley’s is closing for the month of at least July for remodeling of their physical space and reformatting of their menus and service model. We will be suspending our meetings for July 4 (not unusual for the holiday) and July 11. On July 18, we will resume meeting at Liberty on Person Road and will continue meeting weekly at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays at that location until further notice!
Steve Schlott gave a short history of our introduction and entry into collaboration with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, noting that Mike Butts initiated Karen Gasperosky’s presentation to the Club and that 401 beds have been built and placed to date in the homes where children needed them. A Build Day is scheduled at Dort Financial Event Center for July 29 – please plan to attend/support!
Cindy Sullivan has volunteered to have the August Board Meeting/Steak Grill at her home – more info to follow!
A few frivolous fines were assessed by the group that was eager to go pick up tables and chairs for the beverage tent, and the “50/50 Progressive Pot” grew to $410, but it continues to grow after Phil Holmblade drew a Spade instead of the Queen of Diamonds.
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
