December 26, 2024

We hope that you all have enjoyed a blessed and wonderful holiday and are excited about greeting a new year!

A small cohort of members gathered this morning and were greeted at Liberty by a new face – our usual waitress (Patty) is spending extra holiday time with her daughters, so Patty’s sister (Nicole) is covering for her today.

Although the attendance was down and we were lacking the usual procedural landmarks (Pledge, fines, agenda, Creed, President, etc.), we had no deficit in conversational interest and content, spending much time discussing intersections of crime, law enforcement, and moral/ethical dilemmas in historical and dramatic representations of old (“Tombstone”) and relatively recent (“The Blacklist”) material. We also had a very interesting exchange of experiences, opinions, and information about appliances and service providers for laundry! (Brief summary: Speed Queen is pricey but worth it.)

The last of the Sleep in Heavenly Peace inventory of beds for this year are still awaiting placement, due to lease, verification, and other obstacles facing the family in need. Jeff Gauger will keep us informed of events as they continue to unfold so that we can deliver and assemble the remaining beds for the waiting youngsters. He also noted that that some painting is going to be done in the SHP trailer to finish its preparation and presentation.

Greg Hilliker put in a plug for the “Seeing Stars” event coming February 7, and a generous Joe Farah put a donation into the venture. (Thanks for your support of these talented kids and their families, Joe!)

Bill Reaves took home the remainder of cookies and candies that Greg’s wife, Janet, provided for the group this morning, promising that he would not finish it off on the way home.

There will be an informal gathering (Kathy’s at 3:30 p.m.) this afternoon and another regular breakfast meeting next Thursday for those without substantial hangovers or sleep deprivation from the New Year’s Eve partying and game-watching.

Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
