February 10, 2025

Although the weather forecast was bad enough to prompt a couple discussions about the ”first-ever” possible cancellation of our weekly meeting, we held it as usual and had 17 in attendance!

Dan Crannie is this month’s speaker chair and requested support for his role in light of impending absences this month.

Phil Holmblade, in his Optimist International Foundation cheerleader role, reminded us of “Dime-a-Day” and “Dollar-a-Day” options and let us know of the vote for OIF Director (open until 2/28/25, accessible online via OIFOUNDATION.ORG or by Luddites or those without internet at 800-500-8130).

Bill Reaves (Asst. Gov.) reminded us that all officers of the Club should take care of their “video training” sessions by the end of March in order to build and demonstrate skills and also ensure the Club’s eligibility for Honor recognitions.

Greg Hilliker introduced the new Michigan District’s Music Scholarship program and discussed participation possibilities with the members.

President Cindy Sullivan reviewed her recent meeting with Flushing leaders about the next Flushing Summerfest  (June 19-21) and is hoping to get the paperwork ball rolling early this year and the planning underway for our Tent sponsorship.

Jeff Gauger talked about the upcoming Sleep in Heavenly Peace Build Day at Dort Center on February 15 and encouraged participation. March 2 is the day for SHP’s “Spaghetti Dinner” fundraiser at Flushing Moose Lodge, and the Moose is also planning to sponsor another Build in April! (As many beds as we can generate is still too few as yet to catch up to the 2,000-child floor-sleeping waitlist!)

Jeff Dennings recounted his mother’s tears as she talked about the Club’s recognition and compassion regarding her health condition (although he did try to pass it off as her being upset about his missing so many recent Club meetings – “almost as many as Mic Goulet at last count!).

Joe Farah spoke (at length!) about a couple “little-known codicils” to Optimist by-laws, and

Jim Reigle drew the right ticket but the wrong card for the growing “50/50 Progressive Pot”.

Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
