Fourteen of us came to share breakfast at today’s normal gathering of members. We did not have a scheduled speaker but had a lot of discussion –
- Greg Hilliker announced that the Flint School of Performing Arts big “Seeing Stars” event is February 6 and he will be soliciting for donations and sponsorships for this event;
- Mic Goulet stated that he has conferred with Joy Peterman (formerly Martinbianco) and confirmed that the date for our Salvation Army “Bell-Ringing” will be December 5 at ELGA Credit Union on Pierson Road in Flushing, and he reminded us to wear our Santa garb;
- December 5 is also the date for Old Newsboys newspaper sales. (Jeff Gauger will be representing us in the car-dodging and money-generation for the kids that day;
- Cindy Sullivan and Jeff Dennings are looking for support for the same day. (December 4th and 5th are Flushing Candlewalk days and we will be passing out cider and doughnuts to the attendees who visit our tent between 6:00-8:30p.m..);
- Our Annual “Breakfast with Santa” for Michigan School for the Deaf elementary students, families, and staff is scheduled for Thursday, December 11 at Liberty. A “sign-up” sheet for selecting names, ages, and interests for purchasing student gifts at about $30 each circulated through all members present;
- This afternoon’s “Stammtisch” is at the recently re-opened and renamed “Madison’s on Main” (formerly “Kathy’s 126”) in Flushing at 3:30 p.m. (Special news on this location: Randy Thomas, deceased father of owner Madison’s owner, has been honored by the establishment of Renovation Randy Foundation to serve the Flushing community.);
- Jeff Gauger, Steve Schlott, and Jim Reigle helped with delivery and assembly of 8 more “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” beds this past week (along with other volunteers);
- Former member Ken Cullen has been seen this week and reportedly “looks good” and sends his regards;
- Bill Reaves has pneumonia and is being treated, so keep him in your prayers. Besides Bill’s illness, other leadership issues in the Optimist District leadership has resulted from the death of Assistant Governor Jackie Johnson and the resignation of Lieutenant Governor;
- In an interesting “fine” sequence, Joe Cozart proposed a fine against Scott Staley for making Jeff Gauger’s family feel “hot & bothered”, Mic made a remark that resulted in Scott and Steve Schlott trying to fine Mic for sharing “personal problems , after which Mic fined Steve, noting that there is “not a problem” at his age.
- Jeff Gauger “won” the “lucky” ticket again for the “50/50 Progressive Pot” this week and received a resounding “AWWW!” groan of sympathy after failing to draw the Queen of Diamonds out of the deck.
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
