Fifteen members and one guest gathered for breakfast this Thursday at our usual site, Liberty Family Dining. We missed our usual server but enjoyed our substitute server and our meal. We also missed our scheduled speaker, from Madison’s on Main and Renovation Randy Foundation, but she called later in the afternoon to apologize and explain her absence, agreeing to rebook a future visit.
Cindy Sullivan introduced her guest, Matt Strnad (Loan Officer at The Huntington National Bank), who sits on the Board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, along with his other work and interests, making him a good candidate for future membership!?
Bonnie Kelley came to today’s meeting and not just because Phil Holmblade brought in a photo-accompanied cover story and essay on this fine lady and West Flint Optimist Club member in Grand Blanc Living magazine!
Jeff Gauger reminded us of the Sleep in Heavenly Peace “Build Day” on Monday, Jan. 19 at Job Corps, as well as today’s “Assembly” of 7 beds in 4 locations by 5 of our Club members (Thanks, Jeff Gauger, Steve Schlott, Jack Medemar, Jim Reigle, & Greg Hilliker! See photos above & below.)
Further discussion ensued about Member Deb Hawley receiving a large grant and deserved honor for her work and community service work at St. Francis Prayer Center (East Village article can be accessed HERE) and our upcoming Summerfest plans.
Our “50/50 Progressive Pot” of $484 was nearly won by our guest, who drew the 2 of hearts instead of the elusive but highly valued queen. (He was informed that he would be expected to return next week to sell tickets for next week’s drawing!)
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
