Fourteen members gathered this morning to hear our speaker Craig Dietrich, whom Phil Holmblade introduced as Mundy Township Economic & Community Development Director. (Left to right in above photo, see Craig, Phil, and Club President Rich Lewis.) Craig spoke about Mundy Twp. finances (including replacement of 36-year-old ladder trucks with 2 new purchases coming from Texas that can address the needs and structures of today’s population and buildings) and direction (“Development to the North and Preservation to the South”). He also spoke with particular pride about the “Senior & Enrichment Center” (open to all Genesee County residents without charge -click HERE for February calendar and contacts) and the Miracle Field. (Many of our members will recall Roxanne Caine and her son, Brian, who launched the Miracle Field project when he was a teen.) Craig also noted opportunities for the Club to help out regarding the project and its linkage to Special Olympics and other youth activities at the Park.
Phil paid fines for arriving after his guest speaker this morning and then for abandoning the guest at the breakfast table in order to collect Dime-A-Day money. Steve Schlott was absent from today’s meeting, resulting in some interesting “to-be-paid-for-by” machinations to compensate, rounding out Greg Hilliker’s contributions.
Steve, knowing that he would be absent, nonetheless contributed to the meeting by forwarding a photo from MY CITY magazine featuring our healing member Dan Crannie and suggesting a fine against Dan for failing to mention the Club in the feature article. In other publication news, last week’s VIEW publication had an article on the Davison Optimist Club and its 40 years of camel racing (click HERE to see).
Jeff Dennings announced that the “regular” schedule for Stammtisch will resume today with a visit to Flushing’s Madison’s on Main at 3:30 p.m..
The “50/50 Progressive Pot” of $573 remains safely in the Club and growing for another week, since Phil Holmblade’s “lucky” ticket bought him the draw but did not point out the “Queen of Diamonds”.
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
