11 members greeted our guest speaker for the morning, Angela Lots, speaking about her Faith Foundation Resources program (she also has opened and operated ATL Jamaican Jerk eating establishment in the area for a few years). With this non-profit organization and a staff of 4 and a motto of “Producing the next generation of productive citizens”, she has developed “Teen Power” – an effort to teach, prepare, and equip youth for their futures and the adult work world while they are still in high school. Three schools welcome the program now, including Academy West Alternative (Hamady), Flint Southwestern Academy, and Carman-Ainsworth, and the program is looking to add aspects and locations. Skill foci run the spectrum from opening handshake and self-introduction through dress. social media management, and lifestyle choices (“One night can change your life!”) Human trafficking prevention and risk, HIV education (“13-year-olds are the fastest-growing risk bracket for spread”), and management of pay (“7 Steps to A1 Credit”) and nutrition. The Club appreciated the cause and the clarity of direction shared by this energetic and enthusiastic speaker, who won our support (but not the “50/50 Progressive Pot” of over $900, despite holding the lucky number for the card draw).
