In the absence of a designated guest speaker this morning, a “Pretender to the Throne” took over the Royal Crown of “King” Matt Strnad and kept us all entertained: Matt’s son, Jonathan (seen with Matt in the above photo) is on his way to Pelotonia in Columbus, Ohio. Huntington Bank, Matt’s employer, is going to be represented by Matt, Jonathan, and others (perhaps a reluctant Cindy Sulllivan who just got back from Ohio) on this charity-ride fundraiser for cancer research! Jonathan thanked our Club generally for the donations to his previous “Skip-a-thon” fundraiser (for the American Heart Association, mentioned in our 2/29/26 Club newsletter), while suggesting royal fines individually against all those who had not contributed! Thank you, Jonathan, for your interest in charity work and your clever fines this morning!
Fines opened with one against Greg Hilliker for response of “Sure” when asked to say “grace” before breakfast, leading to a brief discussion of theological access and communication with the Almighty (No, not our Club’s “King”!). Other fines this morning included one by Steve Schlott “against anyone who didn’t get the memo regarding shirt color” that wound up backfiring when another member noted that many folks wore blue, so perhaps Steve missed the memo! Another fine was proposed by the TailTwister Jack Medemar “to take the heat off Steve”. A couple fines passed against members for their lateness and “thinking this was a lunch meeting, Greg Hilliker passed a fine against Bill Reaves for “wearing a T-shirt and pretending it was a dashiki”, after which Jeff Dennings proposed and passed a fine against Greg “for using words that most of us don’t know” (educational contribution earlier in this sentence). After an interesting and more detailed discussion of Dan Crannie’s television interview regarding a name change of Flint Township, Dan paid a fine for “failing to propose ‘Crannie Township’ as an option”.
Today’s “Stammmtisch” will be at Madison’s on Main in Flushing at 3:30 p.m..
Steve Schlott held the “lucky ticket” but drew an “unlucky card” so today’s “50/50 Progressive Pot” of $244 remains unclaimed and will grow!
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
