Our scheduled speaker for today did not show and later apologized through Steve Schlott for her absence due to a family situation.
After a week of hiatus and healing, I am back at the keyboard! (Jeff Dennings apparently has some notes from last week that he will compile and distribute.) I had told folks that I’d be on vacation in Oregon and Washington for a couple weeks, but an ER visit and subsequent trip to University of Michigan Hospital changed my agenda – I am now back at home, having canceled travel plans and undergone surgery on my carotid, and am generally healthy and functional (albeit with limitations). Lest you think that I did not enjoy my time away, look at my digs – above photo is my view from my hospital bed and the one below is a shot of that bed and the huge walk-in shower and bathroom (Much better than several of my childhood residences and many hotels in which I have stayed and we joked that someone had informed them that I was the most recent choice for Head Football Coach for the Wolverines!). I continue to recover and redirect, the amazing health care team in A2 continue to support and serve me and my wife in skilled and compassionate care, and all of the 19 members present today (and some not here today) continue to inspire, encourage, and support us. IN CONTRAST, my friends at Liberty this morning were ruthless: fines for being untruthful about my travel plans, seeking refuge “from paying fines last week”, and a new administrative decision by President Rich (resulting in near-”automatic” passage) added to TailTwister Jack Medemar’s persistence to drain me of money for my copays!
Others targeted included Joe Cozart for starting the Pledge with “I will…”, “all those who not read the [nonexistent] memo about which Optimist shirt (click HERE to see some) to wear” to today’s meeting, Dan Crannie for being “grumpy”, John Farah for neglecting to shake my hand, Joe Farah for “traveling incognito” in a polo shirt,, Joe Cozart for his eagerness to take my unused vacation for me, and Cindy Sullivan “for bragging about her winning a YETI cooler!”
Governor-Elect Bill Reaves took advantage of his Home Club’s forum to “warn” (at least “apprise”) us of his upcoming agenda, starting October 1!
Prez Rich Lewis says “BE SURE TO BE HERE NEXT WEEK TO VOTE ON ‘OPTIMIST OF THE YEAR”, and he asked Board members to hang around after Club for a brief meeting today.
A “50/50 Progressive Pot” of $505 remains in the house and growing after Jeff Dennings again held the “lucky ticket” but the Queen refused to dance with him.
