Tony Tucker, Executive Director of Old Newsboys
was inducted into our Club membership this morning, allowing President Cindy Sullivan to consolidate the power at the top with her designation as both President and Queen and wresting the “indisputable fine” from the dejected former King Jeff Dennings (“for now”, Jeff says!).
Jeff and Bill Reaves talked up the upcoming Optimist Michigan District Conference (at WMU in Kalamazoo) on May 4th, urging Club participation.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace Build Day is on the 19th at Flint Genesee Job Corps.
Mike Butts is still unable to make the weekly meetings and a card circulated for our signatures and wishes for his healing and return.
Greg Hilliker will call Optimist International to arrange liability insurance coverage for the Summerfest beverage tent, and the prospect of raffling off 2 donated bicycles to area youth in conjunction with that event is in the planning. Sampling of beverages at Barley & Vine this afternoon will help narrow the final selection.
The fines flew freely, regardless of the change in Crown-holder, for such things as Steve Schlott “hogging the fines”, Greg Hilliker dressing “as if he had something important to do today”, and latecomers’ “luncheon orders”.
Jeff Denniings had another chance to take the “50/50 Progressive Pot”, now nearly $1000, but did not discern the Queen of Diamonds in his Reiki demonstration.
Steve Schlott introduced our guest speaker, Flushing Mayor Joe Karlichek (see photo below), who gave a good demonstration of his community investment and communication skill in the presentation this morning. He talked about the style and structure of leadership in Flushing; financial status, gains, and challenges; priorities of infrastructure and public safety; and his “Find a way to say ‘yes’!” mantra. He also announced that he will complete this last term as Mayor and move in the direction of County Commission for his expression of leadership.
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
