Member Steve Schlott (L in this photo) passes out toys for Christmas!

Actually, the yellow bus is a piece of memorabilia from 1987 presented to Tony Sitko (holding the bus) and Chris “Rooster” Daly, who joined us this morning from CANUSA. They noted our Club’s long-standing relationship with the youth of this “longest in the nation” international sports competition and celebrated this in the past week’s Sports Hall of Fame induction and banquet, also attended by Member Joe Farah. (Joe’s sprinting isn’t quite what it was when he “ran faster than the fastest woman”, but he compensates for this with a very quick wit!) Much memory-raking occurred this morning regarding sports, Club history, personal involvement in and with CANUSA, and demographic and structural changes in the past several decades. Tony called our attention to the upcoming Annual Holiday Reunion Social (see copy of flyer in photo below, and note the dates, times, and fare).

16 of us shared breakfast and cold candy canes this morning and celebrated a very busy week of activities, what with Bell-ringing (10 members), bed-building (22 delivered/assembled this past weekend), Flushing’s annual Candlewalk (2 nights of hot chocolate and candy cane distribution), this week’s 100th Annual Old Newsboys Paper Sale, the Signing Santa Pancake Breakfast with Michigan School for the Deaf (see our last newsletter), the Flint Institute of Music and various Church and community concerts and banquets, and this afternoon’s informal gathering (3:30 p.m. at Scooter’s). Let’s make sure that we take the time and opportunity to keep our Creed in perspective and truly appreciate our many blessings and the rich relationships that are part of our experience and mission.

Next week (December 19), we welcome Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson as our Speaker. (Bring guests to his always interesting presentation and to add to the growing $1541 “Progressive 50/50 Pot” – as the prize gets bigger, so does the probability of drawing the winning “Queen of Diamonds” if the ticket in your possession is drawn. President Cindy Sullivan intends to be on Miami Beach, so President-Elect Rich Lewis will be “in the saddle”, and “King”  (and Treasurer) Jeff Dennings is already planning to add to Club assets through frivolous fines!

Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
