Newlywed Deb Hawley Bailey, from St. Francis Prayer Center,

joined our relatively small aggregation of members for our  regular breakfast meeting and to be inducted into Optimist Club membership. We are glad to have her as part of our group and wish her well in her ongoing recovery from a badly broken foot and torn  rotator cuff that will be  part of her wedding memories. We also wish her well in the final stages of competition for an “Impact 100” grant for which she has been working for a couple years.

Jack Proffitt brought his grandson, Landon, to this morning’s meeting. Welcome, Landon!

Member Bonnie Kelley has had back surgery, which Steve Schlott announced after a text exchange with her, and Steve (as is his informal but appreciated pattern in the Club) distributed a  card for the Club to sign and extend wishes for quick and complete recovery.

Steve also updated us on the “the Farah cousins”, noting that John has been host to his daughter’s family living with them during a housing crisis (flooding and associated repairs) but will return as he can, while Joe will be attending Club in the next few weeks.

President Cindy Sullivan noted that CANUSA is having its appreciation dinner for supporters 2 weeks from today –July 24– and that our Club has been given two tickets for the event – President-Elect Rich Lewis plans on going and any other member is welcome to accompany him. (Let him and/or Cindy know if you are interested.)

30 notes of “Thanks” have been sent out on behalf of the Club to sponsors and supporters of our SummerFest Beer Tent project.

Fines passed against those of us (especially Steve Schlott, Dan Crannie, and Greg Hilliker) who had either sidestepped fines in last week’s meeting or failed to bring a pocketful of coins for this week’s session. Jeff Dennings proposed a fine against Jim Reigle for Jim’s “poor memory” because Jim reported that he picked up 2 watches that had been given to Mic Goulet (Gaines Jewelry) and was asked if he wanted another watch that had been at the jewelry shop since 2016! Jim’s wife seems to be doing well after her hip surgery that relieved her knee pain!

Greg Hilliker reminded the group of the “Patio Night” free concert series at Flint Institute of Arts, in which Michael Hilliker will perform on July 18.

The  “50/50 Progressive Pot” of $1196 remains undisturbed and growing, since Jeff Dennings’ “lucky number” did not extend his good fortune to the identification of the Queen of Diamonds.

Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
