Karen Gasperosky from Sleep in Heavenly Peace
joined us today to update us on SHP, where 40 new beds have just been stained and are ready for delivery/assembly, adding to the totals of builds from Flushing and Millington that have taken place in the last several weeks. She thanked our Club, noting that we are responsible for 40 % of SHP bed assemblies to date. A push for 6 teams to assemble beds on December 9 is planned, which will help meet her goal of 200 completions this year, but she has a list of 300 potential recipients hoping for support. At the most recent Optimist Michigan District conference, donations of bedding and gift cards for equipment/supplies were gathered and shared among SHP chapters. (See above photo.)
In addition to the 12 Club members and Karen, Darwin Sherba (a member of Flushing Rotary who helped us get our “Beverage Tent” endeavor up and running this past summer) joined us this morning and told us that Rotary is planning to help with the planned February 3 SHP “Build Day” at “Signs by Crannie”, has passed out over 3,000 “S’mores” in 2 nights at the Flushiing Candlewalk, and will be hosting a huge “Garage Sale” on April 22. He also offered to send out emails regarding the “December 9 “Build Day” for SHP.
Possible contacts and collaboration with “Downtown” and Grand Blanc Optimists were discussed, possible Guest Speakers suggested, and a “Sign-Up Sheet” for Speaker Scheduling went around the room. (We need more than 3 signatories for this task, folks! Thanks to those who did commit to help with it!)
President Cindy Sullivan reminded us that she could use more support for the “Hot Cider” table at Flushing’s Candlewalk on the 7th and 8th of December (5-9 p.m.).
Fines today seemed to center around food, with Ken Cullen being fined for eating before the rest of the group, Rich Lewis fined for thinking this was a “luncheon meeting”, and Steve Schlott paying a fine for “missing dinner”!
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
