16 Members gathered for breakfast this morning at Liberty and the meeting was called to a semblance of order by President Rich Lewis, who asked Greg Hilliker to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Jack Proffitt to  ask blessings for our food and activities.

Steve Schlott passed around several birthday and “get-well” cards for signatures.

Greg Hilliker passed around the Speaker Chair list for the coming year and noted that Matt Strnad has scheduled Crystal Sierra (from Owosso’s Angel Hands Outreach) to be with us next week as speaker.

Rich confirmed the date (October 21), location (Paul’s Steakhouse), time (5:30 p.m. conversation and cocktails, 6 p.m. Dinner) and payment arrangements (order from the menu), and request for attendance numbers for the WFOC Installation Banquet

Jeff Dennings noted that the “Lions Squares” fundraiser is running smoothly and winners have been awarded their winnings. (Information is available on the Club website.)

Bill Reaves announced that his mother has “returned home from the hospital” after her recent crisis, and he spoke about his planned Governor’s speech to be “from the heart” and therefore “shorter than usual”.

Cherry Givens announced that she and her husband (Jerry) have recorded a song (“We’ve Got It All”) in recognition of the couple’s 51st wedding anniversary.

Mic Goulet gave an informal historical review, display requirements,  and possible rationales for exclusivity in managing very expensive timepieces that Joe Cozart did not not want to buy, anyway.

Jeff Gauger talked about the recent Sleep in Heavenly Peace “Build Day”, noting that less time and fewer volunteers meant that slightly fewer beds than usual were made, and some of those still need staining, although the weather was perfect for this workday. Another Build is coming up in October.

Much discussion developed regarding possible organized volunteer commitments (to SHP bed assemblies or post-Build “staining” yet to be completed, St. Francis Prayer Center bed deliveries, and possible food service stints at area sites – North End Soup Kitchen, Eastside Mission, etc.) wearing  Club garb.

Fines flew freely  for “no guests”, “no Club shirt”, “not having more dimes”, “failure to be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own” and “skepticism”, and “bragging about” or “setting the bar high” for longevity in marriage or celebrations thereof. Many (most) of these seemed to be targeted at Steve Schlott, Greg Hilliker and/or Cherry Givens, and the proceeds added to the existing “50/50 Progressive Pot” to total $649 (that was NOT won by Mic Goulet today.

Until next time,  “Promise Yourself…”
