Fifteen of us gathered for breakfast today and stood for the Pledge and grace “intoned” by Jack Proffitt before President Cindy Sullivan called for announcements and sat down. (She is giving her knee a break before saying “goodbye” to it later this month.)
Bill Hentgen told about events at the Cultural Center, Bill Reaves reported on the Board’s approval of bylaw updates requested by Optimist International, and Jeff Dennings reminded all of the informal gathering this afternoon at Jack’s Place (known also as “JP’s”) at 3:30 p.m. – see update on this below.
Club Members Jeff D., Greg Hilliker, and Steve Schlott (in special garb known as church “work clothes”) were at the funeral of Member John Drumm’s mother, & John’s father has been identified as having “Covid”. (See update below.)
Jeff Gauger reminded us of the Outdoor Build for Sleep in Heavenly Peace scheduled for September 14 at Flushing Presbyterian Church (located at Carpenter and McKinley).
Flushing HarvestFest is coming up and Cindy would like at least 4 volunteers to help with pouring and serving cider while passing out Optimist brochures and good will. The Prez also told us of plans for meeting with Kiwanis representatives this coming week to firm up options and arrangements for a joint fundraiser. A possible revival of Law Day came up and will be explored for community collaboration.
Joe Farah passed around a sheet for signup for a game watch for Detroit Lions’ football season opener and than announced that he will create another opportunity for a future game where the matchup might include “my Cowboys” when too few participants signed on for this weekend.
October 3rd will be this year’s Installation Banquet at Kathy’s, with Cash Bar and Conversations starting at 6 p.m., Dinner ( Chicken and Beef entrees) at 7, and cost of $20/person with Club covering overage and room rental.
Fines today abounded against Greg, but John Farah also paid for failure to sell Jeff Dennings a “50/50” ticket and Joe Farah suggested that John lost his investment in ticket sales when he found out that he got “no commission” on the transaction.
Jeff’s late purchase ticket bought him the opportunity for draw the Queen of Diamonds, but the Pot remains unclaimed at $858.
Updates:
- Steve & Rose Schlott have both tested positive for “Rona” and will be in our thoughts and prayers, along with John Drumm, his family, and other attendees at the Drumm funeral.
- At the informal “JPs” gathering, Members Jeff D., Jeff G., Scott Staley, Joe Cozart, Bill Reaves, and Greg Hilliker were joined by John McNally (prospective member?), who got a lot of information about our interests and activities.
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
