NEWSLETTER – April 23, 2026
A dozen members shared breakfast, discussion, and humor this morning at Liberty.
Although Mindy Williams (from Whaley) was unable to come this morning as our guest speaker, she is planning to attend next week and confirmed the organization’s commitment to Thursday evening activities at our SummerFest tent (“trivia” contest last mentioned) with all proceeds from the evening going to the Whaley kids.
Jeff Gauger spoke about his trip to the Sleep in Heavenly Peace“National Build” in Charlotte, NC this past week, celebrated the transformation of “25 semi loads” of lumber into 10,027 beds by 7,000 volunteers. (He reported that his brother-in-law Scott and Scott’s wife are recovering well from an expressway accident on the way home, although the truck in which they were driving was badly damaged when an erratic driver bounced off the guardrail and into the traffic lanes.)
100 of these beds and mattresses have been received already at the Skaff Furniture warehouse space donated for SHP use, and as many as 35 may be assembled in the next few days. [A team from our Club – Jim Reigle, Tim Sullivan, Steve Schlott, Jack Medemar, Phil Holmblade, & Jeff Gauger, who took the picture – are seen in the photo above at the Skaff location. Photos of 2 of the reasons we do this are shown in the photos below.] Great job, folks!!
Cindy Sullivan and Rich Lewis have garnered some SummerFest sponsors already and plan to solicit more today, and forms are available from them for anyone desiring to distribute, inform, and create support.
“Judge Joe” Farah and “Cousin” John Farah generated a lot of fines today at both ends of the flow, with John passing “a fine against anyone celebrating the birth of a new granddaughter this week” and paying fines (assessed by the Club in lieu of the local constabulary) for operating his vehicle while using his mobile phone and not using his wealth to buy a “hands-free vehicle”. Joe’s string of “broker” jokes targeting John kept the group laughing.
Joe and Member/Governor-Elect Bill Reaves talked about the membership, community contributions, and activities of the Grand Blanc Optimist Club (Joe being a member at both Clubs) that support and recognize youth.
Dan Crannie bought the “lucky” ticket but failed to find the Queen of Diamonds (despite President Rich Lewis’s attempt to mark the cards with spilled coffee) for the $1076 “50/50 Progressive Pot”.
Stammtisch today is at Barley & Vine on Elms Road.
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
