Our new member, Scott Staley (pictured above), has informed us that Lennox has a community offer for our possible participation: Feel the Love (click here for link to more information) is offering new heating or cooling systems for deserving individuals nominated by their communities – an unsung hero who may be going through hardship, someone who helps others in need or simply supports their community, essential and frontline workers who could use an upgrade in their own home. To nominate someone, click here or contact Scott and do it soon!  Nominations end August 31.

Today’s meeting (again at Liberty Family Dining) brought in 17 members to join the frivolity and fellowship, listening to our guest speaker (Fred Thorsby –  see photo below) speak about his recent re-election to Flushing Township Supervisor and about a possible fundraiser collaboration between his Mt. Morris Kiwanis group and our Club. In past years, Kiwanis has had a “race night” (camel, car, horse) in which 10 races lasting 10-12 minutes each provided the entertainment activity, with money for the Clubs coming from the sale of 24 $300 sponsorships, ads sold for the program, $25 dinner tickets, and side auction items, and betting on race outcomes serving as the focus of the action. The Club will consider this potential direction as we seek to restore our coffers for our beneficiaries.

Kathy’s  in Flushing is the site of the informal periodic afternoon gathering today at 3:30 p.m..

Ally Challenge is still looking for volunteer support for a variety of roles.

Mike Butts is back in the hospital and welcomes visitors.

“Fine material”: TailTwister Jack Medemar noted that the stock market rise has John Farah comfortable enough to buy breakfast today, Greg Hilliker paid a fine for voting against a fine (and another fine for buying an omelette for breakfast rather than buying a new hubcap for his wife’s car), and Jim Reigle got into a testy interaction with Jeff Dennings that involved “just sitting”.

Jeff Dennings tried for the $690 pot but did not grab the gold ring (or the Queen of Diamonds).

Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
