A dozen members (and one almost-regular almost-member, Jerry Givens) came to share nourishment, news, stories, and plans at Liberty this morning.
After President Rich Lewis had “voluntold” members for the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation, he opened the meeting for announcements:
Jeff Dennings gave a report (validated by the others present) on the Big Brothers/Big Sisters “Bowl for Kids”, saying that the turnout and fundraising for the event went well, even if the team’s scores would have been more desirable for golf than for bowling!
Jeff also reported that this past weekend’s Michigan Optimist conference was a good one and had some good “breakout” sessions, including one by Jeff himself on the use and value of AI in Club business and communication.
Cindy Sullivan and Jeff discussed Flushing Summerfest plans, with March 9 scheduled for the next meeting. This year’s goal is $20K in sponsorships with a Premium sponsor ($1K) plan in the works. Owosso’s “Camel Race” ideas and possible sponsorship of tables or active gaming role is also under consideration.
Governor-Elect Bill Reaves floated the idea of our local Club (or “clubs”) sponsoring one of the Michigan Optimist conferences in the coming year
Jeff Gauger noted that Sleep in Heavenly Peace beds (36) have been delivered this past weekend (Grand total by Flushing chapter now is up to 915!) and that our Optimist team members will be an important part of this coming weekend’s “Build Day” at Crannie’s (See photos above and below.)shop as well as a part of the upcoming “National 24-hour Build” (see last week’s newsletter for link).
The tension resulting from the Crown ownership and changing heads prompted a comment by Mic Goulet about “Ali v. Fraser”, and a fine passed against the newest member Matt Strnad for having not lived up to his pledge of working for “world peace”/”international accord” in his entire tenure. A fine by Cindy against her husband Tim Sullivan (for beating her to the meeting this morning) prompted some side discussions about marital differences and “body parts”.
Today’s “Stammtisch” will be at the relatively recently-opened Paul’s Steakhouse (near the intersection of Linden & Corunna Roads) at 3:30 p.m..
Mic held the right ticket for the chance at a portion of the $739 “50/50 Progressive Pot” but picked the wrong card (Q Spades rather than the Q Diamonds).
Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
