Job Corps youth volunteers for SHP bed assembly this week

(more photos and an appeal for action to save Job Corps below)

18 members assembled this morning for breakfast after Phil Holmblade’s leading the PLedge of Allegiance and Jack Proffitt saying the invocation. Since we had no speaker for this morning, we discussed several events and developments:

Dan Crannie returned from a recent Scandinavian cruise and was impressed by the neatness and cleanliness of the local lifestyles and structures, as well as their obvious familiarity with life near big water; Dan is also inviting all of us (preferably with RSVPs) to his business’s 40th anniversary celebration (with food and music, from 4-7 p.m.) on Thursday, June 12;

Cindy Sullivan introduced Summerfest plans – wear red shirts, seek sponsors, sell (and/or buy) raffle tickets (for a YETI cooler at $10 each), expect tent set-up on Wednesday, a DJ on Thursday, ‘80s music  on Friday, Country music on Saturday, and take-down on Sunday;

Bill Hentgen told of Flint Institute of Arts “Tattoo” event, open now through August 31, with a special fundraising dinner – “PARTY: Art of Ink” on Saturday, June 7;

Greg Hillliker called attention to a “Classical Masterworks” concert tomorrow night at Holy Redeemer Church (directions HERE)featuring several professional musicians from the area and charging no admission but accepting “freewill donations” for the Food Bank;

Jeff Gauger reports that Sleep in Heavenly Peace has now assembled 706 beds for local kids (12 in just the last week –see photos above and below for the crew that assembled 7 beds in 2 hours and needed the hard hats!); Jeff also has encouraged us, as have the SHP and Job Corps folk, to contact governmental leaders to ensure continuation of Job Corps program support (see HERE);

Bill Reaves recruited members to pass out pizza tonight at Whaley Children’s Center (UPDATE: event was later called off because of changes in safety protocols, to be discussed at later meeting);

Steve Schott would like folks to know that CANUSA and Whaley leadership representatives are scheduled to be at next week’s (June 5) meeting.

Until next time, “Promise Yourself…”
