Seen in photo above are Traci Pigott, Director of CRIM Sports, and 3 of her staff (James, Josh, and Nick), sharing breakfast and information with us about recent and future CANUSA and Ralph Boyer Scholarship decisions. Our own Member Steve Schlott updated all of us on the origin and history of Optimist/CANUSA collaboration and the origin, meaning, and management of the Scholarship. It was good to hear of Traci’s commitment to improved communication about our shared interest in area youth and athletic involvement and to hear about the varied interests and skill sets of her staff as they handle virtually all the sports for Flint’s K-6 kids. 282 of them went to Ontario last year, with Luigi’s packing box lunches (wraps, fruit, chips/pretzels, and a cookie for $6.95/box. With costs marked at $80/student to go there or $50/student to stay & play here, and 100 of the 300 participating kids on scholarship locally and 250 foreign visitors coming this year, the expenses add up and donations are highly prized.

After Rich asked for the Pledge and the invocation, he informed the 14 members present of increasing “Fraud” issues in the area’s business arena, passed around a flyer, and invited attendance at an upcoming seminar on this topic at Mayfair Bible Church on September 30 from 10-11 a.m.. The usefulness of the information seemed to be confirmed by responses from members in the room (especially the bankers and security contingent).
Karen Lorenc, citing time constraints, has chosen to withdraw from active membership in the Club. (Sorry to lose your membership, Karen!)
Jeff Dennings reminded us that the status and information on the Lions Game Pool is available online (click on “LIONS” at the top of Club’s Homepage or you can opt for delivery to your own email address by signing up there).
Jeff also announced that today’s “Stammtisch” is at Madison’s on Main at 3:30.
Jeff Gauger reminded us of this Saturday’s Sleep in Heavenly Peace “Build Day” at Flushing Presbyterian Church on McKinley Road, with 20 beds having been assembled last week (7 yesterday!) and only 60 remaining in inventory. Fines abounded, with Mic Goulet charged with a “cheerful countenance” violation, Joe Farah assessed for “buttering up the King” (Matt Strnad), Rich fined for “forgetting” (but I do not remember what he forgot!), a fine against Jack Profitt “for thinking that he is running the meeting”, and John Farah’s attempt to wheedle Greg Hilliker’s last dime from a fraying pocket.
Joe Farah held the prize ticket for the “50/50 Progressive Pot” of $562 this morning but could not find the Queen of Diamonds.
